A NEW MODEL FOR COMMUNITY LIVING

Legacy Village at San Bernardino Valley College is a 15-acre, mixed-use housing development that brings together student, workforce, and affordable housing in an integrated community. Located directly across from campus, the project includes five four-story buildings providing 465 student beds, 180 workforce housing units, and 88 affordable housing units. Together, these housing options create a vibrant residential environment serving students, educators, working professionals, families, and local residents.

DESIGNED FOR EVERYDAY LIFE

A mix of dormitory-style and apartment-style units accommodates a range of needs, including single students, students with dependents, workforce households, and low-income individuals and families. The development features landscaped open spaces, shared amenities, and pedestrian-friendly pathways designed to encourage interaction and create a sense of community. Architectural design balances durability and cost efficiency with thoughtful elements such as shading devices, layered façades, and transparency to enhance comfort, identity, and livability.

A MODEL FOR INCLUSIVE GROWTH

At SBVC, the need for stable housing is significant. In the college’s Spring 2023 #RealCollege survey, 61.6% of student respondents reported experiencing housing insecurity within the previous 12 months. Legacy Village is intended to help address this need through a collaborative approach to housing affordability, educational access, and community equity. By integrating student, workforce, and affordable housing with community spaces and shared outdoor areas, the project strengthens connections between San Bernardino Valley College and the surrounding community. This approach expands housing opportunities across income levels, supports student success and workforce stability, and creates opportunities for long-term economic and social impact. The result is a community designed to build homes, stability, and a sense of belonging while connecting residents with education, employment, and services that support health and well-being.
